home | a handmade quilt

Don't you love a pretty, handmade quilt?  It is cozy and warm and a piece of art!
For Christmas, I got a new quilt, handmade just for me, by my grandma!! My grandma is an
amazing seamstress and she has been making quilts for each of us lately. My brother got one
for Christmas 2013, I got mine for Christmas 2014 and she is working on one for my sister
right now! It is such a blessing to have a grandma that is as talented and loving as mine!! :)

For my quilt, I got to be very involved in the process and that made it even more special.
I got to choose my pattern and I got to go shopping with my grandma to pick out fabrics!
I decided to go with blues and yellows because I wanted it to complement the duvet cover
I already have. It was so fun going through the process of beginning with a vague idea of
what it would become to what it is now, finished and laying on my bed. And now that it
is on my bed, I can't imagine my bed without it... Such a special gift!!!

Also, in the new year, I re-styled this little corner in my bedroom. I got a couple of new things
that I wanted to use and I love the way it came together. Freshening up this little space in my
room was a simple thing to do that was really good for me in the new year!

inspiration | magnolia homes

Chip and Joanna Gaines' HGTV show, Fixer Upper, is currently my favorite. They are amazing!
I loved seeing the houses they renovated for the first season and I am so excited for the second
season to begin tonight!! They completely transform houses that are old, outdated or falling apart
to become fresh and beautiful again. That is so inspiring to me. Also, Joanna's design style is my
favorite. She uses fresh colors (often white) and a lot of unique and rustic details.

Some of these photos are of their own restored farmhouse and some are from houses that were
featured in the first season of Fixer Upper.

Visit their WEBSITE to see more from the first season of Fixer Upper and much more...
They even have a SHOP where they sell some of the items seen in their houses.

inspired by: A-frame shelves for plants

I absolutely loved this beautiful ladder shelf design the first time I saw it, on A Beautiful Mess!
I was so inspired by the A-frame design and the pretty yellow paint color. I especially love how it is
used to display the cute little house plants. So, it got me looking around for other A-frame shelf designs
& I found a lot of great inspiration. I always love to see variety of different plants all grouped together
& this is a great way to do it! So, sometime in the future I would love to have a bright sun room, with
something just like this. Plus, it would be really great to have just one place to go to water all of your plants,
since I don't really have much of a "green thumb".

inspired by: kitchen + recipe

This is my kind of kitchen!!
I love the white ceilings & of course, the sky light.
I love the contrast of the wood island against the white walls & the stone floors.
I love the open shelves for the beautiful dishes in whites, blues & greens.
I love how light just seems to flood the whole space!

And, because it is fun to daydream every once in awhile,
I could see myself in this kitchen, making something like this...

handmade granny-square pillow...

For my birthday (earlier this month), my sister got me this new duvet cover from Ikea! The pillows I had were not quite right with it, so I decided to crochet my own granny-square pillow... & today I finished it!!
I love the way it looks with the stripes & it will be even better when I finish my granny-square blanket...
& Here is a close up of the wall art that is above my bed... I love this wall!
about each item...
The flower photo was taken from a calendar by Alica Bock.
The floral heart print is by Rifle Paper Co.
The vases & camera are vintage.
The "love" quote (by Oscar Hammerstein) is painted on a fabric-covered canvas.
The two small frames in the upper left are vintage stamps.
I used fabric & a doilies in the embroidery hoops.
The yellow flowers are from JoAnn's.
The little black & white photo is a behind-the-scenes photo from Roman Holiday.
