fashion | summer dresses & warby parker sunglasses

 *   *   *
Warby Parker asked me to help them announce this new collection that is officially available on their website today!!
I was happy to do this, because I really love the look of each of these sunglasses. They are simple and effortless, but they also have an elegant look. So, they could easily be added to many different looks, dressy or casual. One of the things I love the most about this collection is that each style comes in silver and gold, and with different lens colors. The Julia glasses are my favorite of the three, because that style/shape has been my go-to for the past couple of year. Also, I love that the Julia glasses come in gold frames with copper lens. I feel that the lens shape and golden color is best for my face shape and skin tone.

These sunglasses inspired me to make a few fashion boards, matching them with pretty summer dresses!
So, I looked around ModCloth to pick out what I thought would compliment each pair of sunglasses best.
Each look I made is one that I would love to wear! The first look is my favorite! I think the gold in the glasses
goes so perfectly with peach and yellow for summer. And how pretty is that dress?!?!

inspired | knit & plaid

This season, I am loving the look of combining a cute plaid button-up shirt with a cozy knit sweater.
I have gotten inspiration from all of these shots, via  my  pinterest (all the links can be found there).

This is a super cute way to layer for the cold months. I love how it can be casual or dressed-up. Plus, there are so many ways to combine knits with plaids... the color options/combinations are limitless. Plaid looks cute with a classic cardigan, a chunky sweater or a pull-over sweater. And I love that the plaid shirt can be tucked in or left out. I know this is a "trendy look" that I will really feel like myself wearing... so, I think this is going to be a go-to style for me this winter! There are so many things to love about it!!  :)

inspired by: pretty sweaters

'Tis the season for warm, cozy, soft, pretty sweaters!!
I am so happy that I live in a place that has sweater-weather.
Wearing sweaters is the perfect balance of being comfy, yet still fashionable.
That is one of the main reasons I love this time of year!
I first saw the sweater above worn by Arielle (one of my favorite bloggers) & it inspired me...
I fell in love with it's beautiful fall colors & it's chunky knit pattern.
Being a knitter, I always truly appreciate the beauty of a knit sweater.
Maybe someday I will be able to hand-knit a sweater of my own!
Anyway, all of these sweaters are from Anthropologie & they are all so pretty...

DIY dip-dyed t-shirt + a few snapshots...

I am so excited to share about this new dip-dyed t-shirt that I recently made! My favorite thing to wear is jeans & a t-shirt... So, I figured that this "DIY" would be a great way to make a plain t-shirt really fun & cute! I really enjoyed doing this project & I love the way my new shirt turned out!
I am already excited to do it again, with other colors! :)
How I did it...
So, I bought a plain white t-shirt (cotton/ployester blend) & a bottle of Rit dye in "sunshine orange". I used a big, deep stainless steel lid to mix the dye & it was the perfect size. You can use a plastic storage tub or whatever you can find that will be big enough for the the shirt to be dipped into. To mix the dye, I followed the directions on the bottle. Directions may vary depending on the brand of dye you use.

Once the dye was ready, I wet down my shirt with warm water. I put the shirt on a hanger to help keep it straight as I dipped it into the dye. The first dip went up to the highest place that I wanted the color to go & then I pulled it out of the dye right away, because this is the lightest shade. The next dip was halfway up & I left it in the dye for 3-4 minutes. The final dip for the bottom was the darkest shade of the shirt, so I left it in for 5-6 minutes. I wanted my color gradation to be subtle & well blended, so that's how I did it! You can play around with it depending on what you want your shirt to look like. If you want it darker you just need to leave it in the dye for longer.

After I finished dying it, I hung it outside on a clothes line to let it dry & let the color soak in. You can lay it flat if you'd like. Once my shirt was dry, I washed it in warm water, with a little bit of detergent. If you use a washing machine, it is important that you wash it alone or with dark colors, because the dye will bleed on to other light clothes.

(For more specific instructions refer to the tutorial on Wit & Whistle...)

Also, while I was at it, I dip-dyed a couple of canvas tote bags too!
They turned out great! So, I put one in my shop!!

& Here are a few snapshots from lately...
Photos...
Yesterday, I went to lunch with my mom & sister to our favorite pizza place, Bambinos! They have a lunch buffet, with several different kinds of pizza, pasta & dessert pizza. It is all so amazing!! It's a good thing I don't go their very often... ha!

We also went shopping at Super Target, which I always love! My sister got me that Essie polish for an early birthday present... Yay! We also had to get some of their Peach Pear Italian Soda, love it!!

That mountain view is of Pikes Peak & it's actually from the restaurant window. So beautiful!

& The last picture is what I have written from the book of James, for Beth Moore's study Mercy Triumphs!
I am writing out chapter 5 right now, so I am almost finished! I have never written out a whole book of the Bible before, but I have really enjoyed doing it. Of course, I used multi-colored pens!

dressing for spring...

This week has really started to feel like spring! I am so happy to have the warmer weather & the extra daylight! One of my favorite things about spring arriving is that I get to start wearing spring clothes!! Brighter colors & no winter coat!! YAY!! The trend that I have really loved lately is colored pants!
I was kind of nervous about trying this out myself, but just yesterday I found the perfect pair of yellow cropped pants!! I love that the yellow is not too bold & I love that they are cropped (instead of skinny jeans, which never fit me right). I am sure I will wear these all spring & summer!

My necklace is one that I recently made! I am thinking about making some for my shop...

& I have to share this picture of these new bowls that I just got from Target!
They are small, but came in 4 different designs & they are so cute!!
They kind of reminded me of something from Anthropologie, but much cheaper! :)

Happy Weekend!!

a few happy things, lately...

Eating... a sweet & tangy orange for a snack, yumm!

Wearing... my pretty new shirt from old navy (it was $8!)

Creating... cute valentines-y nails (my sister's idea!)

And....
The happiest thing about today is that tonight I am going to see a performance of my favorite musical ever, My Fair Lady....with my mom, sister, & some friends. This is a dream come true for me! Our friends had an extra ticket, so we only had to buy two & that's how we are able to go! So.. I am very thankful! It may sound a bit silly, but I really think God worked this out! I know it's going to be an amazing show & I am so excited!! Needless to say, this song has been suck in my head...
I Could Have Danced All Night by My Fair Lady on Grooveshark

I read this verse this morning & it felt so fitting for how I am feeling today...
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."
James 1:17

Happy Thursday!!

inspired by: regency fashion...

One of the my favorite things about watching all the Jane Austen movie adaptations is to see all of the beautiful Regency-style costumes! I love the dresses from Pride & Prejudice, like in this photo...

Well, here are some beautiful items from ModCloth that seem to be inspired by the fashions of Jane Austen's day. The colors seem so fitting & I love the empire waists. The details are so pretty... the pleating, ruffles, & lace! What a beautiful collection & all of these would be so perfect for spring!
