2012 goals: Count my blessings...

This month I want to try to focus on goals for the new year & this is one of them! I first saw this quote on pinterest & it inspired me, creatively & spiritually! So, I decided to create my own design as a special reminder! :)

In our world, it seems like it is just getting easier to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others. It seems like everywhere we look there is something trying to tell us that we are inadequate. A lot of the time it's the media... Often times it's even ourselves & we don't realize it. When we get caught up in that kind of thinking, it will steal our joy. We will never be content with what we have. When it comes to ourselves, we need to make a choice to ignore those thoughts & focus on the blessings in our lives! When it comes to others, we need to look beyond the surface & remember that life is hard for all of us in different ways, at different times. No matter how perfect things may seem, there is usually more to it that we don't know or understand...

So, my goal is to make a daily effort to look for the blessing in my own life. To thank God, for everything I can think of at the end of each day!! I plan to keep a personal written journal of gratitude, so I can look back & be reminded of how God has worked!

I think about the message of this old hymn...
"Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done."

I believe that God created each of us with a perfect plan in mind! He has hopes for us that are unique to us! They may not be perfect according to this world, but they are perfect according to Him & His plan!

"Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by."

  1. Have you read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp? It would be the perfect companion, given your goals! I think it's the most profound book I've ever read, outside of the Bible.

    (Here's a link to it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0310321913/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=kitchcoura-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0310321913 )

  2. My mom used to start singing that song in the car when my sister and I would start arguing about something. Whenever we got to the end of the chorus she would say someones name and we would have to say something we were thankful for. It reminded us of all the wonderful blessings we have! What a great goal for the new year!!
